Blanes Botanical Gardens!

Blanes is Home to arguably one of the best botanical gardens in Europe. If you have a Spain holiday rental around the Blanes area then this is definitely something that can’t be missed.
Marimurtra Botanical Garden

The garden itself is perched on a mountain top, therefore offers spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea. It was first created in 1920 by the German businessman Carl Faust, and since then has expanded greatly. Overall the gardens cover around 15 hectares with over 4000 different plant species for you to enjoy. Faust decided to dedicate much of the plant life to Mediterranean and sub-tropical flora, as well as a range of cacti, plants endemic to Catalonia, and beautiful plants from regions of central and southern America.

If you rent a villa in Costa Brava in the town itself, it is possible to walk to the attraction, with the gardens located just 1.5km from the city centre. It is open every day and charges just a small entrance fee. Once you are there you should be prepared to do a little bit of climbing, as due to its location there is a lot of steep slopes and long flight of steps that lead up to the Linnaeus temple.

Many people choose to combine their visit to the gardens with exploring the coves below, before retiring back to their vacation villa in Spain ready for a nice long siesta!

Pinya De Rosa

Pinya De Rosa is the second botanical garden in Blanes, and has officially been declared a de interes nacional. Covering around 50 acres, it contains over 7000 tropical species of plants such as cactuses, palm trees and aloe vera plants. These gardens are perfect if you are visiting off season due to their staggered flowering throughout there year, so there will always be something to see.

Again these gardens are open all day every day for just a small fee, plus if you are driving from your catalonia holiday rental, there is free parking available.

Things to do on a rainy day in Majorca!

Although renting a villa in Spain will get you on average around 300 sunny days, there will be that odd time when it rains. If you have a Mallorca holiday rental, you shouldn’t let this get you down, take a break from the beaches for the day and see what else the island has to offer.
• Visit the caves – Mallorca is home to several large caves, the biggest and most well-known of these are the Coves del Drach, which features huge chambers and even an underground lake. Every day the cave is host to a concert of classical music which is performed by musicians on a lit up boat, which proves to be quite a magical experience. Other caves include the Coves de Campaner of Coves de Arta.
• Spa Trips- Although you can get a villa with a private pool in Spain, there is nothing better than indulging yourself at one of the many spas, many of which offer hydropools, jacuzzies, saunas, indoor pools and a range of treatments. Rent a villa in Majorca in Pollensa or Son Brull to get treatments using only natural products.
• Visit Historic Buildings- There a huge range of historic buildings that are scattered across the whole of the island. The many castles, monasteries, palaces and estates reveal Mallorca’s fascinating past.
• Shop until you drop- If you have a Mallorca holiday rental in Palma, then you have a range local and international shops right on your doorstep. Alternatively head to Fan Mallorca, the island’s biggest shopping centre that is located just 5km from the capital.

You will be treated to a guided tour which will show you the production process, view the exhibition space and then get taken to the gift shop where you can buy a souvenir to take back to your Mallorca holiday rental.
• Wine tasting- Just because the sun isn’t shining, it doesn’t mean that you can’t taste some of the delicious local wines on offer. Why not enjoy a guided your of Bodega followed by some wine and tapas.

Finding that perfect souvenir in Mallorca!

Sometimes it is nice to take a little something home with you when you have a great holiday abroad. Not only will it remind you of what amazing memories you made, you can also find some stunning high-quality goods to fall in love with.

Majorca Pearls

Mallorca is known for its pearls, but not those that you would typically find in the sea. The island features a number of top brand pearl manufacturers, such as Orquídea to Majórica, all of which have factory shops located inland. Some of the shops will even have their factories open, so you can go and see the pearls being made before heading to the shop.

Traditional Sausages

If you are a foodie, you should not leave the island before snapping up some traditional Mallorcan sausages, which are known locally as ‘Sobrasada’. The sausages are made by families across the island, so you shouldn’t have to travel too far from your Mallorca holiday rental to find them. The sausages are cured so should be fine for travel!

Leather Goods

Leather goods are world famous in Mallorca, with many leather outlets scattered across the island. You will be able to find some high quality good such as jackets, belts and hand bags. For some of the best quality products, you should head to Inca, which is located between Alcudia and Palma, and is often dubbed as the ‘city of leather’.

Coloured Pottery

In the Mallorcan region of Marrattxi, which is located around an hour away from Alcudia, you will find an area that has a strong tradition of pottery making. Shopping for this pottery is an experience itself, as spending an afternoon wandering around the area’s quaint markets can be extremely relaxing and interesting. From colourful pots and vases to some more unique items, you are sure to find something you will fall in love with.

Dine with the stars at Barcelona’s Fabra Observatory

If you’re looking to enjoy a romantic getaway with a loved one, why not consider a holiday in Barcelona? They may say that Paris is the ‘City of Love’, but Barcelona is the ‘Capital of Romance’, and it has fast become a favourite holiday destination for lovers from across the globe.

There are plenty of romantic options in and around Barcelona for a night out for two. First, opt for booking a villa with private pool in Spain for the ultimate in luxury and relaxation, followed by a dinner underneath the stars at one of the city’s most romantic restaurants.

Dinner With Stars’ (or Sternalia) isn’t a restaurant, it’s an experience. Taking place in the summer months, availability is limited as couples from all over the world flock to Barcelona to enjoy this unique outing that includes fine dining with a view of the solar system. While cooking up a romantic dinner at your Barcelona villa is certainly a wonderful option, nothing quite beats the incredible experience of Dinner With Stars.

The Dinner With Stars experience takes place at the Fabra Observatory. Built in 1904, it is one of the world’s oldest working observatories, and the 32P/Comas Solà comet was actually discovered here. Located on Mount Tibidabo, the observatory is easy to reach from most Barcelona accommodations.

Fabra Observatory

All dishes at the Fabra Observatory are themed and take on galaxy-related names. Some of the top choices include the ‘Star Nebula’ salmon, and the ‘Textures in Cosmos’ beef tenderloin. If you’ve booked a family villa in Barcelona and have brought the little ones with you on your romantic getaway, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s also a great children’s menu here, with macaroni, French fries, and ice cream! Whether you have the kids in tow or it’s just you and your beloved, the experience is an unforgettable way to celebrate your love.

Exploring Barcelona’s El Born neighbourhood

There are many great locations to consider when choosing where to stay for your holiday in Spain, but perhaps one of the most exciting is the El Born neighbourhood. The lively, eclectic neighbourhood is located in the Ciutat Vella (Old Town), nestled between Plaça Catalunya and the beach.

About El Born

On the surface, El Born appears to be remarkably similar to the historic Gothic Quarter with its narrow, cobbled streets and old time charm. However, situated just a tiny bit further from the main city centre, El Born tends to have less of a touristy feel, making it a great place to learn more about ‘real’ local life. Despite not being within the main hub of hustle and bustle, there is still plenty to see and do in El Born, including the Picasso Museum, Ciutadella Park, and the Barcelona Zoo. El Born is also recognised as an up-and-coming ‘hip’ district, doing for Barcelona what Brooklyn did for New York City.

What to See and Do

Passeig del Born is one of the city’s top nightlife hotspots, located along the beautiful, tree-lined street. The neighbourhood is also home to some of the most breathtaking architecture in all of Spain, including the mesmerising Santa Maria del Mar church. Thanks to the presence of the Picasso Museum, there’s also a very definite artistic vibe running through the streets, and El Born has fast become a favourite Bohemian hangout.

Staying in El Born

While there may be fewer larger options (big family villas in Spain are often located in more spacious areas, for example), what you will find in El Born is a wide range of cozy and charming apartments that are full of character and personality. With rooms often located above the shops and restaurants within the pedestrianised streets, you will find stunning rooftop terraces and views of the city, mountains, and beyond.

Hiking along the Costa Brava

If you love nature, the great outdoors, and keeping active, then rent a villa on the Costa Brava, where you’ll have easy access to one of Spain’s most spectacular hiking trails: Camino de Ronda. Considered to be Costa Brava’s ‘hiking gem’, the path travels all 136 miles between Blanes in Catalonia to Collioure in France, and is a great alternative to the much longer 450-mile Camino de Santiago Frances Trail.

Camino de Ronda — Day Hike

For many visitors to Catalonia, hiking the entire 136-mile trail may be a bit too much. However, the good news is that it’s possible to just walk a small section of the path in one day, which can give you a great taste of the coastal path. Start in Calella de Palafrugell and walk up to the lighthouse in Llafranc before walking back again. In some places, the trail goes right along the beach for amazing views.

Camino de Ronda — Through Hike

Travelling all the way between Blanes and Collioure is a big journey, but it can be done! If you find it difficult to pack lightly, consider arranging for luggage transfer through a company in Spain. These companies drive your bags from one villa in Spain to another, so you can enjoy a lightweight walk in the day but still have all your little luxuries waiting for you at your destination.

Why Walk the Costa Brava Trail?

There are many wonderful things to see in Catalonia, but it’s impossible to see them all from your Spain holiday rental. By taking a walk away from the main tourist destinations, you’ll stumble across hidden beaches and secret coves, tiny fishing villages and inland beauty spots; all places that you wouldn’t have found if you’d stayed in the more well-known places.

Camino de Ronda Accommodations

The great news is that the Camino de Ronda trail runs right through a number of popular resort destinations, including Lloret de Mar, Tossa del Mar, and Cap de Creus, which means that there’s a wide range of Spain holiday rentals available along the track. This allows you to really take your time, walk at a pace that’s comfortable for you, and really make the most of the incredible sights along the way.

Benefits of booking your holiday with a full-service agency

When booking your family holiday accomodation, your options are limitless: travel agents, hotel packages, and discount websites abound and can potentially turn an enjoyable activity into a veritable reservation nightmare.

However, full-service villa rental agencies have entered the travel landscape and have rescued vacationers from deceitful property owners and misleading advertisements. See below for even more benefits to booking through an authorized villa rental agency.

  • Personal attention. Reserving a hotel room online is quick and convenient, but what happens when you have questions about your reservation and your only option is to send message using the ‘Contact Us’ form? At a private rental agency, there is an actual person on the other end of your phone call, as well as someone who reads and instantly responds to your e-mail requests. Instead of waiting for hotel or resort staff to weed through masses of messages, get an instant answer from the staff at an agency.

  • The right answers. Hotels and resorts have vital information on their websites, of course, but when you have a specific question about the room or the villa that you reserved, they might not always know the answer right away as they have hundreds of rooms through which to sift. Private agencies may have a large number of rentals, but you can be sure that they know their properties inside and out.

FOTOS CASA 010

  • Continuous involvement. From the moment you send your first inquiry until the day you pack up and leave your villa, your reservations team will be there every step of the way to ensure that your vacation experience is everything your heart desires. Most agencies offer assistance with vehicle rentals, in-house catering, and organizing excursions like horseback riding and wine tastings.

  • A chance for deals. Because agencies have close relationships with the owners of the villas and properties, there is the possibility of negotiating rental prices through the agency. When making your reservation, be sure to ask about any current specials or extra services that can be compensated.
